Creating some sort of personal exercise program is a great way to get rolling losing weight. If you haven’t worked out for some time, or never, you may not have any idea how to get started. You probably think it’s somewhat intimidating. All you have got to do is get moving and take off walking. You definitely should add walking into your exercise routine if you haven’t done so already.

There are plenty of ways you can fit walking into your everyday schedule. If you have a pet dog then take your dog for a walk around the block for a minimum of ten minutes. 10 minutes may not feel like like a lot of walking, but over a month, or even a week, it adds up quickly. You can double this by just taking your dog for a walk twice a day. If you don’t live too far away from your job walk there, or at least some of the way. Evidently, if you live a two hour walk from, your office, it’s not such a great idea to walk all the way there each day (but feel free to try if you think you can do it!) If you’re lucky enough to have merely a thirty-minute or so walk to your office, that’ll be an extra hour of walking per day. If you catch a bus, just walk to the next bus stop so that you do a bit more walking in the day. Adding more walking into your day-to-day routine is a cinch.

If you wish to be healthier overall, you can’t lose by walking. Because walking an aerobic exercise, you’ll burn off calories, which means you’ll shed off some pounds and it’s also beneficial for your heart. You can go at a somewhat slow pace if need be, so don’t be afraid that you’re going to injure your muscles or joints as you might if you went for a run. My brother is really slim (but he eats a lot of junk food) and I asked him how he remains lean. He told me he’s never actually thought about it, but perhaps it’s because he walks quite a bit on a daily basis. When he reminded me of that, things abruptly made sense. Walking is simple exercise, so there simply isn’t any good excuse for you to not walk.

Try and get into the habit of walking each day since you’ll have a better chance of sticking to it, and with the proper diet, you’ll be able to slim down rather easily. You won’t have to worried about motivation, since walking is not all that strenuous, and you’ll be pleased at how much better you feel. As you walk more and notice changes, you’ll want to do more or increase the intensity of your walks. Why not, if you think you can do a lot more? Who knows? Maybe you’ll take to walking so quickly that you decide you can bring up the notch a bit by jogging. After that, the sky’s the limit.

Now the truth is out – there is simply no excuse to not get out there and start walking. You can always find time to walk around your work complex, or the block. If not, sign up for a gym membership and get on a treadmill. There are lots and lots of ways to skin this exercise cat.
